- Black and white photograph depicting Dr Dorothy Howard and an unidentified man surrounded by children, all watching a game of marbles underway between six boys. Taken in Perth, Western Australia in April 1955 in a government school.
It is one of a group of photographs probably taken by American folklorist Dr Dorothy Howard while she was studying children's games and playlore in Australia under a Fulbright research grant,1954-1955. Her photographs and research have become part of the Australian Children's Folklore Collection at Museum Victoria - part of the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register.
The ACFC is unique in Australia, documenting contemporary children's folklore across Australia and in other countries reaching back to the 1870s. The Collection has a strong component of research material relating to Victoria.

- Shows Dr Dorothy Howard and an unidentified man surrounded by children, all watching a game of marbles underway between six boys. The game is being played on an unsealed surface and the children are all in light summer clothing. The man is wearing a suit and tie and Dorothy Howard is dressed in a suit and hat. She is noting down the rules of the game.
