This photograph shows children at the makeshift kindergarten at the Tennis Club House in Deepdene Park on Whitehorse Road in 1954. When the Tennis Club wasn't being used for tennis it was the kindergarten. During the baby boom after World War II, many buildings were used as kindergartens. Margaret Johnson, Mrs Bedgood (of Bedgood shoes) and Mrs Menzies, (whose brother in law was Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies), started the kindergarten. - Acquisition Information:
