Children performing en masse maypole routine in a stadium, with spectators in stands.

This photograph shows the formation of maypoles in Melbourne Cricket Ground, 1954. The contributor's mother was one of the teachers in this pageant of Melbourne school children for the Queen's Visit. The Queen drove around the perimeter of the Melbourne Cricket Ground whilst the children performed their maypole routine.

I was a participant in this event and the date was March 4th 1954.

I was also a participant in this event - seem to recall that we were all dressed in pink.

I participated in this event at the MCG and danced the Maypole, still have my photo in my white dress.

I also participated in the Maypole dancing at the MCG all those years ago! The dresses were white Nancy with white material flowers on the dress and in our hair.I still have my photo too Glenys.

I also participated in the maypole dancing all those years ago. I was from Coburg West Primary School and the colours were purple and gold.

I think the Queen Mother came out when I was in High School and was at the MCG
