Digital Photograph - Two Boys in Toy Car in Front Yard, Altona, 1952 Image Reg. No: MM 110469

Description Of Content:
Two little boys squeezed into a toy car, riding it on a foot path.

This photograph shows David and Martin Nowell in their toy car, December 1952. Their mother Melva Nowell bought this toy car for the boys for Christmas. It was second hand, and their father Jack Nowell gave it a new coat of red paint before giving it to the boys. It didn't fit under the tree so they had to go outside to get their surprise. The children used to always their parents 'why the other children had such flash bikes and cars' when they didn't. Melva and Jack told them it was 'because they (Melva and Jack) didn't have enough money to give Santa'.
