Digital Photograph - Girl with Teddy Bear 'Edward Bruin' in Backyard, Mitcham, 1957
Reg. No: MM 110831
- Description Of Content:
- An infant girl standing, while her teddy bear sits on wooden seat, in back yard.
This photograph shows Margaret Elizabeth Spall aged 2 with her teddy bear 'Edward Bruin' in the family backyard in Mitcham, 1957. Margaret's parents had lived in 2 different flats, in St Kilda Rd and in Armadale, but they were desperate to find a house of their own after World War II. Margaret had been unwell as a baby and the neighbours complained about her crying. This little house in Mitcham, then a rural area, with no electricity was all they could afford. There was a kerosene refrigerator, an unmade road, septic tank and the woman down the end of the street still drove a horse and cart. - Acquisition Information:
