- This stereograph shows two stereoscopic images of the Victorian Contingent Procession- soldiers marching through a street crowded with on-lookers.
This stereograph shows the Melbourne procession of 'the Victorian Contingent', most likely the First Victorian Contingent of soldiers leaving for the Boer War, October 1899. The street is crowded, and a girl is visible climbing up onto a corrugated iron shed in the foreground. This stereograph came from a collection of Melba Ryan's grandparents, Josephine and Martin Nowlan. A lot of them were bought around Federation as souvenirs. They were passed down to Melba's mother, Doris Holden, who passed them down to her. - Acquisition Information:
