- Summary:
- This song was written by the performing arts teacher at Billanook Primary School in Montrose, Gabrielle Murphy and her mother Stella van Tongeren. They wrote the song in response to the footage of Sam taking a drink from CFA fireman, David Tree. The song was recorded in April 2009. Singing this song the Billanook School choir won the Victorian section of the Wakakirri Story-singing school's competition in October. David Tree then visited the school in November to present the choir with a plaque recognising thier achievement. The choir then went on to perform the song at the Montrose Carols by Candlelight 2009.

- In the days and weeks that followed Black Saturday a wave of shocking and horrirfying stories were reported daily. One story touched people with its simple humanity and honesty, the story of a CFA fire fighter saving the koala with a drink of water. In it's simplest form the story inspired and continues to inspire people all over the world and this song represents the emotional and nationalistic resonance the story had with many people.
