- Colour photograph of Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra and Exhibition Trustee Chairman Mr Freeman Strickland OBE unveiling the commemorative plaque for the Exhibition Building centenary from the temporary dais errected at the eastern entrance to the Royal Exhibition Buildings as part of the centenary celebrations. She is accompanied on the dais by various distinguished guests, members of the Exhibition Trustees and their spouses.
This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files. - Description:
- A colour photographic print on a page of a photograph album. The image depicts Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra and Exhibition Trustees Chairman Mr Freeman Strickland OBE unveiling the commemorative plaque in recognition of the Exhibition Buildings' centenary from the temporary dais errected at the eastern entrance to the Royal Exhibition Buildings giving an address as part of the centenary address. Seated on the dais behind them and visible in this image are Mrs Strickland, Exhibition Trustees Director Mr. JC Elden, Mrs Watson, and the Hon. Norman Lacy, MP, Minister for the Arts in the Hamer Government between May 1979 and April 1982. Behind them a banner hung across the entrance way reads 'The Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition', with the dates 1880 and 1980 in the upper corners. There is a printed caption below the photograph.
