Photograph - Mayne Nickless Exhibit, The Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition, Royal Exhibition Buildings, 1980 Image Reg. No: MM 124502

Summary:
Black & white photograph of a 1925 Morris & Son tray truck carrying the markings of Mayne Nickless, motor carriers, in the Mayne Nickless exhibit at the Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition held at the Royal Exhibition Buildings, Melbourne, between 23 September and 5 October 1980.

Founded in 1886, Mayne Nickless continued through the twentieth century as one of Australia's largest multinational trucking companies, expanding into North American and European markets, before entering the health care sector in the 1980s. The company was plagued by regulatory investigations which revealed collusion practices in its trucking practices in the early 1990s. Deteriorating business performance and subsequent scandals in the company's health sector saw it sell a large portion of its hospital portfolio in 2003, before finally being broken up in 2005.

This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.
