The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

Richard Hamer, accompanied by Exhibitions Trustees and their partners at a breakfast in the Princeton Room, Royal Exhibition Building, to commemorate the occupation of the Western Annexe of the Exhibition Building by the Victorian State Parliament between 1901 and 1927, held on 9 May 1981.
