- Lantern slide 2 from a set of 12 lantern slides depicting the story titled 'Heroes and fanatics in the Soudan: the story of the British occupation in Egypt 1882-1898'.
This lantern slide is part of the Francis Collection of pre-cinematic apparatus and ephemera, acquired by the Australian and Victorian Governments in 1975. David Francis was the curator of the National Film and Sound Archive of the British Film Institute as well as being a co-founder of the Museum of the Moving Image in London, which was operational between 1988 and 1999. - Description:
- Lantern slide featuring a colour image printed on glass with black paper edging. A second piece of glass is attached to protect the printed image.
- Description Of Content:
- Coloured drawing depicting two horses pulling a canon being led by two soldiers. All are running; clouds of dust surround the scene. The soldiers wear red jackets with white straps and yellow epaulets and braid, and blue/grey trousers. A soldier's hat, and perhaps kit, have fallen to the ground in the melee.
