This publication provides a detailed and interesting account of a late 19th century voyage from England to Australia and back again via Cape of Good Hope and Cape Horn, including a six month stay in Melbourne. It includes contextual detail as well as providing a log of the ship?s progress. The author, Sinclair Duncan, specifically chose to travel on the ?Sussex?, a fully rigged sailing ship that was one of the last passenger voyages fully under sail. He documents the changing nature of ship travel to Australia in the late 19th century.
The book also includes illustrations of the ship and a world map showing the track of the voyage and the ship?s position at weekly intervals. - Description:
- Hardbound, octavo-sized book, with tinted lithographed frontispiece and a folding coloured world map, original cloth (a little flecked), front board decorated in gilt with title in circle with two square-rigged sailing ships at top and bottom.
