- Audio and video interview with Lorraine and Ray McCarthy by Liza Dale-Hallett at their home at Murmundgee, North East Victoria, 11 May 2010. Lorraine and Ray McCarthy lost their home during the Black Saturday bushfires, which was located on 170 acres in Mudgegonga.
This forms part of the Victorian Bushfires Collection, which includes interviews with other residents impacted by the 2009 bushfires in north east Victoria.

- Lorraine and Ray describe the farm at Mudgegonga prior to the Black Saturday bushfire, their early retirement and relocation to this area from Sydney in 1998, the establishment of a bed and breakfast cottage in 2000 and the impact of the 2006 bushfires on tourism, the development of hydroponic vegetable business in 2005, irrigation and drought, limited radio reception. The interview includes their dramatic escape and near disaster when one of the two cars they were driving crashed during their evacuation, the impact of the fire on their animals, the challenges following the loss of their home and personal belongings, the Shire response following the fires, their decision to not rebuild, impact of the bushfire on their sense of community, volunteer assistance, the different coping strategies used by women and men, and the value of collecting stories.
