Cookbook - Chris Owen, 'The Kinglake Cookbook: Recipes from the Bushfire Relief Centre', 2010 Document Reg. No: HT 26795

Cookbook compiled by Chris Owen, a chef, who was involved in the Kinglake Relief Centre following the Black Saturday bushfires in February 2009.

The text on the rear cover reads: 'Initially relying on donated food and a barbecue-powered kitchen, Chris found himself cooking 300 to 400 meals a night for people who had lost everything. And, in the six weeks he was there, he discovered the true healing power of food - how the ritual of the evening meal helped knit a community back together again. This book is a collection of the tried-and-true recipes Chris relied on in Kinglake - crowd-pleasing, cost-effective favourites that are also a proved way to bring joy to the table".

The book contains photographs from Kinglake immediately following Black Saturday, and chapters which include the background to Chris Owen's involvement in the relief effort at Kinglake and the many challenges he faced, a series of cooking tips and recipes across a range of food groups. The book was purchased from TarraWarra Museum of Art at the opening of their exhibition 'Bushfire Australia' in March 2010.
