Stamps - Wildlife Caring, Rescue to Release, 60 Cents, Australia, 5 Oct 2010
Reg. No: PH 6060
- Summary:
- The stamp issue features six native animals in care. It encourages an awareness of threats to native animals and the importance of wildlife caring - from rescue through rehabilitation to release.
On the mini sheet of 6 stamps and the poster advertising the stamp release in Australia Post outlets is an image of a Magpie release taken by WIRES member Ákos Lumnitzer.
Australia Post Philatelic Manager, Michael Zsolt said, "Australian native animals are some of the most remarkable in the world. However, it is a sad reality that many are injured, often in their contact with humans. With their plight further impacted by dwindling habitat due to expansion of Australian cities, bushfires, floods and other natural disasters, it is important to recognise and support the volunteers and not for profit organisations such as WIRES, which care for our native animals in times of distress. We hope the stamp issue will bring national attention to the selfless work of all wildlife carers." - Description:
- Strip of 5 60 cent stamps with selvedge at both ends.
