Postcard - 'Kind Regards', Belgium, World War I, 25 Oct 1916 Document Reg. No: HT 29451

Embroidered World War I era postcard inscribed 'Kind Regards' and showing a horseshoe with the national flags of Imperial Russia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium and France crossed and extending from the centre. The postcard was sent from Belgium on 25 October 1916 by 'Will' to 'My Honey'.

According to the Australian War Memorial, the popularity of embroidered postcards (first made for the Paris Exposition in 1900) peaked during World War I. Many were 'embroidered by French women in their homes and then sent to the factories for cutting and mounting on postcards'. Common themes included family, remembrance, liberty, unity and war souvenirs.
