Summary:
Black and white copy negative depicting the 1931 horse sales, held annually in Trentham, New Zealand. It was from the 1928 sales that Harry Telford purchased Phar Lap.

It belonged to the donor's father, Mr Jim Shaw (1908-1992), who worked for AF Roberts, the thorough breeder who produced Phar Lap in Timaru. In 1929 Shaw became his stud manager when the operation was moved to Katurna Valley.
