Summary:
Used for recording prescriptions dispensed to patients at the Receiving House, Royal Park Hospital for the Insane 1908 - 1911. Separate columns for male and female patients. Gives name of patient, date and contents of prescription. Handwritten in ink.
Description:
Large, lined notebook with blue oilcloth cover, half-bound in red leather with crown at head of spine. End-papers marbled in turquoise, purple, maroon and white. Edges marbled in green, yellow, blue and white. Book only one third full.

Why was Louisa Lawson placed in the Hopital for the insane?

Hi Julia, are you referring Louisa Lawson, suffragist and mother of Henry Lawson? She died in Gladesville Mental Hospital in Sydney. She had apparently suffered mental health issues in about 1905 and when she entered the hospital her memory was failing. State Records NSW hold the records for this hospital and may have her records: http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/resources-for/family-historians/asylum-records More can be found about Louisa at http://adbonline.anu.edu.au/biogs/A100019b.htm and there is a biography about her: Louisa, by Brian Matthews (McPhee Gribble, 1987)
