- Summary:
- Colour printed menu for an evening reception held on the 9 May 1901, the day the first Commonwealth Parliament of Australia was declared open, printed by E. Whitehead & Co of Melbourne.
The evening reception commenced at 8 pm, with musical selections; Royalty arrived at 9.15. Nine more musical pieces were played; Miss Nellie Stewart sang 'Australia' and ample refreshments, including champagnes, German wines, French claret, sherry and port, and Australian wines, were served in buffets erected on the ground floor and upstairs. 10000 guests were invited to the event. - Description:
- Front page of Menu decorated with coats of arms of Colonies and United Kingdom and printed in pale green, beige, dark brown and gilt. On page two and three is printed the menu with wines served at the Reception, and the name of the caterer - H. Skinner. On back page in centre is an image of the Exhibition Building from South.
