Straitjacket - Locked, Cream, Circa 1910. Alternative Name(s): Straightjacket. Form of restraint used in mental health hospitals in Victoria Australia. Used in a ward for female patients (F5).
Straitjacket is made from strong canvas. Front has a round neck and sleeves are sewn into large pockets each side for hands. A wide strip of canvas is sewn across the chest and fastens across the back by two locks. There are four more locks down the back of the jacket.
