Summary:: Handmade fishing net brought to Australia by Giovanna Tenace when she immigrated from Italy in 1939. In Italy Giovanna had worked making fishing nets since the age of ten and expected to continue this work in Australia. However she found work on a farm and this net, a ball of cotton and a net needle became mementoes of her former life.
Description:: Long tubular fishing net, consisting of a long length of off white cotton netting held in place by two grey metal rings and one light brown cane ring. One end of the net has been secured and woven together to form a handle, while the other end is flared out to form the opening. Between the two metal rings hangs a funnel-shaped net.
