Saucer - Nathco Chinaware, Yellow & White Stripe, circa 1957
Reg. No: HT 86
- Summary:
- Yellow and white striped saucer made by Nathco Chinaware, circa 1957. It is one of five saucers from a tea set used by the Dereani family at Bonegilla. Georgia Dereani, her husband and infant son immigrated to Australia from Trieste, Italy, in 1955. They spent the first five years of their lives in Victoria at Bonegilla Migrant Camp. Georgina and her husband became staff members at Bonegilla and were allocated private accommodation, which Georgina went to great lengths to make comfortable, purchasing many household items around Albury, NSW. Georgia did not initially like the Australian style of making tea with milk. In Trieste, it is made black with lemon, or even vodka. When she became an Australian citizen, she felt she had to have an 'Australian cup of tea.'
