Silk banner painted by G S Hislop of Adelaide for the Operative Masons & Bricklayers of South Australia.
Description:
Large painted banner in extremely poor condition. Blue dyed silk faille constructed with 7 horizontal fabric lengths, machine sewn French seams. Red trim.
Recto: Large architectural style design set in an ethereal sky scape with allegorical figures surmounting and within architectural forms. Framed detailed tableaus on two levels describe ideology, skills and attributes of the union. Large tablet centre bottom holds lettering. Signed and date lower right hand corner.Verso: undecorated.

Hello, G.S.Hislop or George Smith Hislop of Adelaide was my gr grandfather and had reputedly worked in Adelaide Government House attending to their paintings etc. Do you have any record of this . I have much information and a photo of George if you would like it . Thank you for allowing me to see the second item that was part of my gr grandfather's work Dell Paton
