Summary:: Framed piece of Burano lace, showing flowers in a vase. This lace was made by Albertina Vallaro in the 1970s. Albertina learned this unique and ancient skill as a child in Venice, she continued to make decorative items in Burano lace in Melbourne where she lived with her daughter for a number of years. Burano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon and is well known for its lace making industry. Burano lace is a needle lace, it is traditionally worked quite tightly making the mesh appear more square.
Description:: Framed piece of white Burano lace. The lace depicts flowers in a vase and is set on a dark blue background. The frame is gilt and neutral textile.
