- Metal food grinder used in the kitchen of a mental health hospital, Victoria, Australia, circa 1880
- Description:
- Food grinder consisting of bottomless cylindrical bowl, tapered toward a base which bulges out and has 3 protrusions to take screws and bolts which attach it to 3 legs which splay slightly outward. Beneath the bowl is a hollow grinding block, cylindrical but bulging up inside the bowl to form a rotating base, which is serrated around the edges. A revolving shaft goes from the bottom of the grinding block to the base of the object. A curved handle on the side attaches by a short horizontal shaft to a cogwheel which notches into a second cogwheel on the downward shaft. Shaft ends in screw-regulated adjustor.
