Cotton cap padded with kapok used in a mental health hospital in Victoria, Australia, circa 1900. Padded caps were used by patients to minimise head injuries, particularly when they experienced epileptic seizures. - Description:
- Double layered cap made with strong cotton as outer lining and wool as inner lining; kapok for padding and cotton strap band on top and both sides. Rougly repaired (?) with black machine stitch around lower edge.
