Dress - Black Wool, circa 1950. Worn by patients at a mental health hospital in Victoria Australia. These dresses were issued to female patients in mental hospitals in Victoria.
Black woollen material dress buttoning (3 buttons) to the waist and with a short slit at the waist, fastened by one hook and eye. It has long sleeves, a shirt-style collar, one breast pocket and loops at the waist for a belt (but belt is missing). The skirt is calf-length and straight. There are splits in the seams where stitching has given way at the top of the skirt, the waist and the sleeves.
