Ledger - Betting, Randwick Race Course, 1930 Reg. No: SH 922223
- This betting ledger was used by bookmaker Reg McKay at Randwick Race Course in Sydney, NSW, in 1930. The bets are recorded in pencil in columns headed by the relevant horse's name.
It includes the A.J.C.Chelmsford Stakes, run over one mile on the 5th October 1930. This race was won by Phar Lap, ridden by Jim Pike, in 1 minute 51.5 seconds, in front of 85,000 people.
Reg. McKay (1878 - 1968) was a leading bookmaker in Sydney, 1906 - 1938, and a leading Doubles bookmaker in Melbourne 1939 to 1968. He was born in Collingwood, and became a bookie after he moved to Sydney. He kept the ledger as a souvenir of his first day in the Paddock at Randwick.
- Large betting ledger consisting of a number of paper pages printed with blue lines, and blue and red columns. The pages are bound inside brown paper covers held in place by a band of black binders tape.
Inside are recorded the races and the bets taken in a series of races at Randwick in 1930. The bets are recorded in pencil in columns headed by the relevant horse's name printed in pencil.
