I was born on this ship the 30th September 1967 while my parents were migrating to Australia from Italy

I believe I was on this ship in 1967.
My family and I were sailing to Italy from Melbourne, Australia. It was my best childhood memory. I was 10 years old and became good friends with a boy, who's name was Tony. We did not get a chance to say goodbye to each other and I often wonder what ever became of him.

As a young boy I was fortunate to travel a few times on both the Marconi and Galileo , to Europe and home to Australia . The trip was about five and a half weeks . In those days due to my Fathers work , my Mother would travel with my sister and I on these ships to meet my Father in Europe .we were very spoilt and travelled first class , and I remember many adventures on board , and fun .
I guess they were the days of true travel , unhurried , luxurious ..

Nous avions émigré , la première fois que j'ai posé le pied en Australie à Fremantle. Que de bons souvenirs sur ce merveilleux paquebot.

I traved on the Marconi with my parents and my brother from Genova Italy to Sydney Australia in August 1974, I was 9 years old, and have beautiful memories of the ship and the voyage. I think it was the best time of my life, I had a feeling of total freedom, the natural ocean air was so clean, I remember the pools on board and lounge areas our cabin and the cinema with the green coloured chairs they were so comfortable, Also how clean everything was. Ports we stopped at were Canary Island's, Cape Town, Fremantel, Melbourne and Sydney. I was greatly saddened to learn that the ship was scraped, after all the voyages and all the people that travelled on this great ship. Memories of the Marconi and the places we stopped at will stay with me forever. If anyone traveled around the same time and would like to email me I would be happy to share memories or photos would be nice.

I travelled on the Marconi with my parents as a 3 year old on our way to a new life in Australia. We left from Genova in March 1965 and left the ship in Fremantle. Even at that young age I have many memories of the trip and these stories are now part of the fabric of our life. I still have the little bag Dad bought for me from the dockside vendor in Alexandria. It turned out mum's "seasicknes" was cured with the birth of my baby brother in late 1965.

In January 1974 our family returned to South Africa from New Zealand on The Marconi. Although I think we had to fly to Sydney to board her. Shortly after that due to the oil crisis there were no more sailings in that direction.

In Aug/September 1967 I was 8 years old when I sailed on the Marconi with my mother and two sisters to Australia from Genoa. The memories are priceless and unforgettable. 28 days sailing across the world was magic, the ship was the most beautiful thing that I had ever seen and to this day I am captivated by Sydney Harbour as it brings back incredible and beautiful memories when we sailed into the Harbour on the amazing Marconi. My family traveled on the Marconi from Genoa to Sydney, arriving March 1971. Our journey began in Montevideo, Uruguay, on the Augustus, which sailed up the east coast of South America en route to Genoa. From Genoa we sailed down the west coast of Africa, as the Suez Canal had not yet opened. An exiting trip for an 8 yo & her sister & brother, a nervous one for my parents.

Thank you for igniting the memories.... Our family sailed from Genoa in October 1967, arriving in Melbourne on a sunny Saturday morning on the 25th November 1967. We were migrating to Australia from Poland to join our family in Melbourne. As a 10 year old, I remember the 4 weeks on Marconi as a most exciting and liberating experience....fun, discovery and sailing into the unknown!!! Melbourne has been home ever since, but the Marconi experience remains as a major input to our transition into a new life in Australia.

I would love to exchange experiences with other travelers on Marconi, particularly during October/November 1967.
