Brochure - 'Galilei, Marconi', Lloyd Triestino Line, 1967
Reg. No: HT 2616
- Summary:
- Brochure issued by Lloyd Triestino Lines, in 1967. It contains advertising material and information for the ships G. Marconi and G. Galilei. It is part of a collection of 175 items of post-war ship memorabilia collected by John McKay. John began collecting shipping brochures as a boy through an interest in travel and later used some of the material in his professional capacity as a Geography and Social Studies teacher. He finally made a voyage himself in 1957-1958, to England to attend a scouting jamboree, although he ended up staying for 18 months. He remembers lots of Australians going over at that time, and references to Earls Court as 'Kangaroo Alley'.
The G. Galilei and G. Marconi, were launched in 1962-3. They voyaged from Genoa, Italy to Melbourne, and could carry up to 289 first class passengers and 1594 tourist class passengers. - Description:
- Stapled double-sided brochure on gloss paper. Black and white and colour photographs of the ship accommodation and facilities, and colour photographs of destinations visited en route. Also black and white plan of the ship illustrated with black and white photographs. Text in English, Italian, French and German.

My family and I were sailing to Italy from Melbourne, Australia. It was my best childhood memory. I was 10 years old and became good friends with a boy, who's name was Tony. We did not get a chance to say goodbye to each other and I often wonder what ever became of him.
I guess they were the days of true travel , unhurried , luxurious ..
1966 as a single young man going to the uk.
Great memories of many top ports of call on a
great ship.
Nous avions émigré , la première fois que j'ai posé le pied en Australie à Fremantle. Que de bons souvenirs sur ce merveilleux paquebot.
I would love to exchange experiences with other travelers on Marconi, particularly during October/November 1967.
Best Regards, John.
