- Alternative name: clogs, wooden shoes.
Pair of black sabots with wooden soles and leather uppers. Square toes. Acquired by Museum Victoria in 1884 from the Belgian (aka Belgium) Export Co.
No reference to the Belgian Export Co can been found in the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition Official Record - it was established two years afterwards, in 1882. It was considered 'one of the practical results of the Melbourne International Exhibition'.
'Sabot' is the French word for clog or wooden shoe.
- Pair of black sabots with wooden soles and leather uppers, attached with stitches. Square toes, less upturned than traditional clogs. Impression in vamp suggests wide opening secured by buttons (or hooks) and laces, and parallel ridges on toe (as if from wear or decorative).
