I have a watch that is a mirror image of the pocket watch above(29224). It is in A BOX FROM R Stewart of Glasgow. Any info would be great. Given to my great grandad in 1916.

Hi Stuart, thanks for your enquiry. You may be interested to do an internet search and add the word ‘history’ to Waltham Watch Company. These sites also provide background and further references that may be of interest.
Another internet search of ‘antique watch collectors’ in your locality may provide an expert you could take your watch to for further appraisal. They may also be interested in the box particularly if it is the original one.

Hi James. The above answer should probably give you some answers as to researching the history of the company and you may be able to find out more information from a local horologist or horology society. Additionally this site http://www.pocketwatchrepair.com/histories/waltham.html gives a list of serial numbers and years of Waltham watches. You should of course verify these with an independent expert, but they may give you an idea of the age of your watch if you look for the serial number on it.

Hi, I have a pocket watch with the words 'STAR' on the inside back of the case and also 'AMERICAN WALTHAM WATCH COMPANY' surrounding the logos of a fish decorated with a capital W , there is a number 105072 below this. The dial has roman numerals but does not have any makers name on it. It has a second hand and a winder. Could you possibly tell me anything about this watch? Thanks

If you open the case and gently prize open the plate covering the works, you will find a serial number then type in Waltham watch data base in google and type in this serial number which will tell you quite a bit about your watch. Also go to Barry S Goldbergs pocket watch colection -its very helpful.

Hello Judith - David has given you some excellent advice. That 7-digit number does give a result on one of the online Waltham databases, with information regarding the construction materials. Best of luck!

Hi Frank, the Dennison Watch Case Company was a very successful firm based in Birmingham, England. The cases stamped with a moon were gold filled and nominally guaranteed for 20 years (before the brass wore through). This was higher quality than the “star” cases but less than the “sun” cases. For a proper analysis we recommend you take the watch and case to a professional valuer or horology expert.

Hello James Richmond. My pocket watch sounds identical! The serial # is 12174009. It's in great nick and keeps excellent time.
