Summary:
Star wheel or Maltese cross form of clock stop work, used to prevent damaging the spring by overwinding. This example was used on the spring of a musical box.
Description:
Star wheel or Maltese cross form of stop- work for clocks with going barrels. Consists of steel wheel with finger and of star wheel with 6 teeth, 5 of which have concave top to fit finger wheel and the other being convex. When the finger wheel encounters the convex tooth further winding is prevented.
