I have the same 1886 Elgin with Roman numerals. my serial number is over 200,000 older. Mine was one of the first 25 made in this first run. It works and keeps accurate time but the crown pulls up but won't change the time if needed. Is it a spring problem? thanks for any help.

Hi Davis - We're not able to provide repair advice, but our horology curator suggests that you check to see if there is a branch of the Australian Antiquarian Horological Society local to you, and they should be able to recommend a reputable repairer.

Hello Rich - A site such as this one gives a brief overview of Elgin watch history, whereas this useful site has a serial number lookup service, which will give you more information about your specific watch.
