Aeroplane Model - Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero
Reg. No: ST 023555
- Summary:
- This 1:32 scale model of an A6M3 carries the markings of an aircraft found damaged at Buna, New Guinea by Australian troops in January 1943 following the Japanese defeat at Buna-Gona. It had been flown by IJN Air Group 582. The Japanese characters on the fuselage indicate it was a presentation aircraft paid for by subscription. The red circles or hinomaru were the standard Japanese national identification markings carried by army and navy aircraft. The wrecks of several A6M3 Zeros found at Buna were combined and a complete example was later flown at Brisbane. This model was purchased by the Museum in 1953 from Mr R.D Ramsay.
