- Model of the 35,000 ton Royal Navy King George V class battleship HMS King George V. This vessel was built by Vickers Armstrongs Ltd as class leader and was launched in 1939 with a main armament of ten 14-inch guns. The ship served with the Home Fleet between 1939 and 1943, during which time it participated in the pursuit and eventual destruction of the German battleship Bismarck. In 1944 it joined the British Pacific Fleet to operate against the Japanese alongside the US Navy. After limited post-war service HMS King George V was scrapped in Scotland in 1958.
This 1:144 scale model was made by C.W. Samson of Footscray and was purchased by the Museum in 1942.
