A later feature of telegraph networks was the use of wireless technology, which included mobile communication. This first mobile communication in Australia welcomed the Duke and Duchess of York to the celebration of Federation. The shore-based wireless station was specifically built for that purpose by H. W. Jenvey, the Post Office Electrical Engineer for Victoria. Jenvey also constructed the coherer, which was an essential part of the wireless telegraphy equipment. Jenvey constructed the coherer in the workshops of the Victorian Post Office. - Description:
