- Bifurcated aorta prosthesis with blue and white cardboard packaging. The prosthesis is made of woven Dacron and was manufactured by Bio-Spectrum (Aust) Pty Ltd in 1990.
It is used in the treatment of an abnormal swelling, called an aneurysm, of the abdominal aorta which branches out and provides oxygenated blood and nutrients to the lower half of the body. The aorta is the main artery of the human body. If an abdominal aortic aneurysm ruptures it can lead to major blood loss and eventual death. The prosthesis is surgically stitched into the aorta in order to strengthen its weakened walls.
- Y-shaped cream coloured tube made of flexible dacron fibre.
Prosthesis has accompanying packaging which consists of a rectangular cardboard box with a printed blue band at one end and printed blue, black and white text.
