The clock is a slave clock that was operated by electrical impulses from a master clock, and in turn transmitted impulses.

Samuel Kahan was a Russian-born watchmaker who came to Australia in 1880. In 1887 he had a business in Collins Street West, Melbourne, and resided in Hawthorn.

Rectangular wooden case with full movement. Seconds are at the top, minutes to the left and hours to the right.
