Motor Ship Model - MV Malabar Reg. No: ST 034863

Summary:: The Malabar was a 4,512 ton motor vessel owned and operated by Burns Philp & Co. Ltd. It was built by Barclay Curle & Co. Ltd at Glasgow in 1925. It was designed as a passenger-cargo vessel for the Australia-Java-Singapore route. On 2 April 1931, the Malabar was wrecked at Long Bay, south of Sydney when it ran onto rocks in foggy conditions. All passengers and crew were saved and the wreck was broken up over many years. The Sydney suburb of Malabar was named after the wrecked ship in 1933.
