Summary:: Sample of Black pepper seeds from India contained in a glass jar with stopper. This was collected and prepared by T.N.Mukharji as part of his work for the Indian Botanical Gardens. It was donated to the Museum by the Indian Government, Calcutta in 1887.

Piper Nigrum is an oil yielding plant. Indian and Malaya samples contain an essential oil to which medicinal properties are due, and small quantity of fatty oil.
