Summary:: Copper One Penny Token, minted by an unknown British mint. Issued by R.S. Waterhouse, Baby Linen Warehouse, Hobart, circa 1858. Rowland Skipsey Waterhouse was born on 29 January 1818, the son of a Methodist clergyman. In October 1839 the firm of R.S. Waterhouse and brothers was established as General Printers and Bookbinders in Hobart Town. Waterhouse's bussiness interests expanded to include ironmongery and drapery.
Description:: A round copper token (34 mm diameter) featuring the name, address and business of the company which issued the tokens: R.S. Waterhouse, Manchester House, Hobart Town drapery establishment. The reverse of the token depicts a child suspended from a walking trainer. This token has been cleaned

Bach in the 1980s I managed to collect some 7of these penny tokens along with 5!/2 Penny ones. the price then was around $7.00 but as time went by and dealers knew there was a Collector the price went up to +/- $20.00. These were collected to pass on to Waterhouse family members from the Halifax/ Carey St London stock who arrived in Adelaide cc May 1871. we are now settled in Bunbury WA after the Grandfather brought the family to The Coolgardie Goldfields in Nov 1893.
