The reverse is based a bust of James Cook facing three-quarters right; the date 1770 and Cook's signature accross the bust, in the background is a map of Australia showing Cook's voyage up the East Coast.

Hi Angus. Thanks for you question. According to Greg McDonald's 2009 Pocket Guide to Australian Coins & Banknotes, there were 16,548,100 of these coins minted for circulation.
