Other Details: Melbourne Church of England Grammar School gilt prize medal, dated around 1880. It was not awarded. Melbourne Grammar was established in St Kilda Road in 1858, on a land grant of 15 acres. The School's new bluestone classrooms initially accomodated 77 pupils. The School's first 40 years were a struggle. Changes in headmasters and the economic depression of the 1890s saw Senior School enrolments fall from 272 in 1889 to 117 in 1894. In the new century, however, stability was established and enrolments increased. - Description:
