A groat is a fourpence coin. Due to the thin numeral form on the reverse this issue is called 'Wire Money'. Grueber (p.151) considers these to be Maundy Money but Skingley (p.404-406) seems to only consider them to be Maundy issues if part of a Maundy set - 4d., 3d., 2d. and 1d all of the same date. - Acquisition Information:
