Hi My maternal great grandfather Umberto Pellegrini and his brother where winners of this medal. It has recently surfaced in my family tree research. Was there a certificate issued with the medal?

Hi Rob. To the best of our knowledge a certificate was not issued with the medal; staff at the museum have certainly never seen one. Unfortunately, the catalogue of the exhibition (a copy of which is held at the SLV) does not provide any information about prizes awarded. You could try the Gold Museum in Ballarat for further information. In terms of your family, there is a listing in the catalogue for Pilligrini Brothers, Coles’ Book Arcade, Melbourne, who exhibited stone carvings. Perhaps this your maternal great grandfather? It was not uncommon for family names to be misspelled.
