Medal - Victorian Anglers Club, Victoria, Australia, circa 1900 Numismatics Reg. No: NU 20197

Summary:
Australia Victoria
c. 1900 (AD)
Mint: not recorded

Other Details: Victorian Anglers' Club medal. It has not been inscribed with a name, and therefore was probably not awarded. One of the aims of the Club, described in its rules issued in 1884, was to facilitate the 'advancement and increased interest in the sport by prize contests'. The Club also aimed to protect fish in the Melbourne area; promote fellowship between anglers - particularly through a Club Room; provide reliable information to members; and reduce expenses such as tackle, bait and travel. The Club imported fishing equipment directly from England and sold it to members at 'a trifle over cost price'. Members paid an annual fee of one guinea, plus half a guinea to join. The Club Room was located at 57 Bourke St East, Melbourne.
