Other Details: A Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Award was established around 1919 in memory of Sir Peter Nicol Russell, a Sydney ironfounder who made substantial donations to support the development of engineering in Australia. He gave £50,000 to the University of Sydney in 1895 for the Peter Nicol Russell School of Engineering, this medal relates to that donation. The portrait die was cut by Allan Wyon in London (d. 1907). The later award medal, based on this early form, is presented annually by the Institution of Engineers Australia to a Fellow of the Institution over 45 years of age who has made a significant contribution to science and/or the practice of engineering in Australia. - Description:
