Filter Press - Breitz Werke GMBH, circa 1940 Object Reg. No: HT 3505

Small filter press used for filtration of laboratory samples. Manufactured by Breitz Werke GMBH, about 1940. Large filter area and thus fast flow achieved by multiplate construction alternating porous pads and hollow metal plates. Entire assembly was autoclavable before use for sterile filtration. Tubing and connectors conformed to sterile practise. Square sheets of filter paper with varying porosities and thickness were available. Used by Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL) Ltd., Parkville, Victoria.
box shape with square layers of brown cast iron interspersed with 4 sheets of white filter paper. 6 tube shaped bolts thread through RHS and LHS with wing nuts to clamp together. Brown tubes clamped to corners. Tube has red stopper and glass fitting.
