According to the Encyclopedia of Melbourne, Gunsler's Cafe Hotel operated from 1879-90, on the site of the City Club Hotel (circa 1872) in Collins Street. Later it became the Vienna Cafe Hotel(1890-1915) and then the Australia Hotel. The new Australia Hotel opened in 1939.
