Summary:: Opium or coin scales in wooden case made in China pre 1900. The set is made from ivory, brass & wood.
Description:: Ivory rod with tapered ends and black measurement markings along length. A separate oblong brass weight with central whole through which a knotted string is threaded allows the weight to be hung from one end of the rod whilst a shallow metal dish with four holes that are each threaded with blue string is affixed and hangs from the other end of the ivory rod.
Wooden case has two parts (base and lid) that feature a long thin section to house the ivory rod and a bulbous section at one end where the brass weight and dish can also be stored. The case and lid are connected at the end of the thinner section by a threaded string.
